Fremont Fire Department’s Disaster Preparedness Training Program

Local governments prepare for everyday emergencies. However, during a disaster, the number and scope of incidents can overwhelm conventional emergency services. The City of Fremont Fire Department and the Fremont Office of Emergency Services have been conducting several training programs for many years, to better prepare the residents in the event of a disaster.

The following training programs are FREE to residents of Fremont, CA :
> PEP Training   (open to all)
> CERT Training   (open to all)
> CERT Continuing Education   (for CERT graduates)
> First Aid / CPR Training   (for CERT graduates)

Additionally, local clubs can guide individuals acquire a FCC License required for operating any Amateur Radio equipment. This is open to everyone and CERT graduates are highly encouraged to acquire this license.

The Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP) class is specifically designed to help residents prepare for a disaster and to take care of themselves and their families before, during and after a disaster. This is a one-time 3 hour class in which you will learn Earthquake Disaster Awareness, Utility Control, Fire Safety, Hazardous Material Awareness, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Awareness, Home Disaster Preparation and Sheltering In-Place. The PEP class is based on the same curriculum as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program. It is a condensed class and covers all the important skills that the CERT training provides, without the long-term commitment of joining the team.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is an all-risk, all-hazard training. This valuable course is designed to help you protect yourself, your family, your neighbors and your neighborhood in an emergency situation. CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations where citizens may initially be on their own and their actions can make a difference. While people will respond to others in need without the training, one goal of the CERT program is to help them do so effectively and efficiently without placing themselves in unnecessary danger.

Training classes offered under these programs are FREE for Fremont residents, unless explicitly indicated. For further information about these programs please visit the individual pages on this web site.

This website is managed by CERT Graduates and volunteers in coordination with the Fremont Fire Department and Office Of Emergency Services, and while we work very closely with these departments, we are not an official part of these departments. Our goal is to provide information, a forum for discussion, and a point of contact between Fremont Community Emergency Response Teams and CERT members everywhere.
